The Armed Forces Covenant is an Enduring Covenant between the People of the United Kingdom, Her Majesty’s Government and all those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces of the Crown and their forces.
In doing so, Gloucester Rugby commits to honouring the Armed Services Covenant and supporting the Armed Forces Community. The Club pledges to recognise the role Serving Personnel, both Regular and Reservists, Veterans and military families contribute to our business and our country.
Gloucester Rugby will demonstrate the club’s commitment to the covenant by:
Promoting the fact that we are an armed forces friendly organisation
Seeking to support the employment of veterans young and old
Striving to support the employment of Service spouses and partners
Endeavouring to offer a degree of flexibility in granting leave for Service spouses and partners before, during and after a partner’s deployment
Seeking to support our employees who choose to be employees who choose to be members of the Reserve forces; including by accommodating their training and deployment where possible
Offering support to our local cadet units, either in our local community or in local schools, where possible
Aiming to actively participate in Armed Forces Day
Offering a discount to members of the Armed Forces Community
CEO Stephen Vaughan confirmed that it was a logical thing to do for a club which already has such strong links with the military.
“I’m proud to have signed Gloucester Rugby up to the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant.
“There is a strong military presence in the county, not least the Allied Rapid Reaction being based at Imjin Barracks at Innsworth and we have a strong relationship with them.
“Last season, we designated our home fixture against London Wasps as Forces Day where we held collections for the Royal British Legion, were entertained by performances from the Innsworth Military Wives Choir and the Nailsworth Silver Band and the matchball was delivered by the Red Devils parachute squad.
“In the past we have also nominated Help for Heroes as one of our chosen charities and have signed up to the Tickets for Troops initiative.
“I’m delighted to say that we are now formalising this approach and signing up to the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant.”
