Dan Robson on Sportlobster
It’s been a tough start to the season, and after last Friday night’s game at home to Exeter, I was individually quite happy with how I performed when I came on. I thought as a team, we pressured them well and earned good ball, but obviously it was disappointing with ten minutes to go, needing to score a try, the momentum was with us and we could’ve scraped it.
From the team perspective it was massively disappointing not to finish off with a win.
We showed again on Friday night, that there are glimpses and we are showing good signs as a squad. Hopefully on Friday night, we can put in an eighty-minute performance and show exactly what we can do.
We’re training well, but when it comes to it on game day it is totally different. We’ve shown it in bits that we can put in a performance but at this level you cannot give teams starts. We showed it against Sale, we showed it against Chiefs but we can’t keep giving ourselves too much to do.
Working with Greig is great; he is a great guy and a really great player. It’s a great battle for me to try and push forward and keep on learning off him. He has bags of experience and is a real leader and therefore I will read so much from him. He just oozes class.
I’ll learn completely different things from Greig, than I have done from working with Jimmy, who was equally great, but for a young player it is great to be learning off two great scrum halves.
Onto tomorrow night, Welsh have had a big change, just like us and we’re taking nothing for granted this week. Looking at the analysis, they have some great guys in attack and are capable of running in some great tries, so this weekend we will have to be on our game in defence.
I remember going to the Kassam two seasons ago, similar situation where we were trying to settle as a squad and they were newly promoted and they gave us a really great game. We probably sat back a bit too much then and let them run at us.
We’ll learn from that, and hopefully that will stand us in good stead tomorrow night!
